about
A courtship in 3 parts — this one is all about the song. I just love the melody. And I think that the chord changes are some of the prettiest that I’ve ever come up with. I know that this is also a particular favorite of Dave. When I played the recording for my wife for the first time, when she first heard Jan’s and Gabby’s viola, I saw her eyes get big and she sat up in her chair. By the way, Jan Hammer is not that Jan Hammer.
lyrics
Were we lonely?
I forget
But I can't forget the way you looked
The night that we first met
It was Tuesday
It was late
But not too late to play the flirt
Or play the hand of fate
A smile hello
Come on, let’s go
The bar’s about to close
“Here’s a pen,
“I’ll call you when…”
Were we happy?
I forget
But I can't forget the words you said
When you said it should end
I was happy
What did you expect?
But I didn’t expect the way I felt
When you stayed in my head
The urge to phone
Come on, let’s go
The show’s about to start
“Hey, why not?,
Another shot…
As much as things were meant to be
This was meant to be
As much as this was meant to be
Things were meant to be
As much as things were meant to be
You were meant for me
As much as you were meant for me…
Now where are we?
How could I forget?
We’re on the road, come on, let’s go…

If someone told me Bob Rock produced this album I would believe them. A wonderfully rich sound, with so many College Rock and Americana influences I won’t even begin. Great lyrics, great production, great sound. The album closer is epic too Joe A buys records
Released in 2001, “The Convincer” is a gentle gem in the Nick Lowe catalog; an anniversary edition provides opportunity for rediscovery. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2021
A big, bright, sweet single from Philadelphia's Hurry, sugary vocal melody playing perfectly against starstruck guitars. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 1, 2016
