about
I wrote this one night at my wife’s apartment, when we were still just dating. I was finally in a happy place and wanted to write something to express that. I also knew, from hearing her sing in the car, that Sharon had a nice voice and an affecting vocal style. I wanted her to sing this from the start. But, what originally started as sunshine-y pop song, somehow morphed into a country song once Nils, Dave, and Steve got their hands on it. So why fight it? And then, when the kids got all geared up for the record, of course I couldn’t resist letting them sing on the “na-na” part!
lyrics
Happy days are mine
And nighttime leaves a good impression
Got nothing but time
But no time to wallow in depression
Feeling wide awake
I've shaken off the effects of morning
The days is mine to take
No time to heed overcautious warninga
-c-
Picked myself up out of bed
Kicked all the gloom out of my head
Saw the sun shine through the trees
Down on to me
My friends look at me strange
They've never seen me quite this happy
Such a sudden change
From the depths I'd dredged before
But they've all become glad
For the happiness I've found
A thing I've never had
And thought I'd never have in store
-c-
na na na na na... (etc.)

If someone told me Bob Rock produced this album I would believe them. A wonderfully rich sound, with so many College Rock and Americana influences I won’t even begin. Great lyrics, great production, great sound. The album closer is epic too Joe A buys records
Released in 2001, “The Convincer” is a gentle gem in the Nick Lowe catalog; an anniversary edition provides opportunity for rediscovery. Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 20, 2021
A big, bright, sweet single from Philadelphia's Hurry, sugary vocal melody playing perfectly against starstruck guitars. Bandcamp New & Notable Oct 1, 2016
